Remove the Foreign Gods Among You, Purify Yourselves, and Change Your Clothes

If you want to follow God and walk the road that leads to the kingdom of heaven, you must first remove the foreign gods from your heart. Any thoughts that do not belong to God, any idols that take God’s place, and anything that keeps you from drawing near to God must not remain in your heart. Whether it is the love of money, the pursuit of fame, success, or status, attachment to the world, or giving in to the desires of the flesh, all these things must be removed. If your heart is filled with these things and you are unwilling to empty yourself, God’s word will have a hard time taking root in you. If God’s word is crowded out by the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth, and empty things, the truth will not remain in your heart. You will not be able to obey God’s word or bear fruit that shows true repentance, and in the end, it will also be difficult for you to enter the eternal kingdom God has promised.

Therefore, you should examine your heart and the path you are walking according to God’s righteousness. Look at yourself with spiritual eyes and examine whether your spiritual clothes have been stained, whether you are still living in sin, and whether you are still doing things that displease God. When you see your own weakness and lack of holiness, you should understand that if you continue living in sin, you will be separated from God, and in the end, what you will receive is death. This should lead you to have a sorrowful and repentant heart, to weep over your sins, hate sin, and confess your sins before God. When you truly repent, turn away from evil, obey God’s word, and keep His commandments, your life will be renewed, you will be reconciled to God again, and you will have a share in eternal life and receive the eternal life God gives.

Do not continue living as you did in the days when you were far from God, and do not continue living according to your old way of life. Now that you understand the truth, you should turn away from the sins you once loved. Put off your old self, change your clothes, and put on the new self. Let your life be joined to the Lord and become a new creation in Christ. No longer follow the flesh and its desires, but obey God’s will and live the way a child of God should live.

Therefore, remove the idols from your heart and do not allow anything to take God’s place in your heart. Keep your eyes fixed on the Lord Jesus and live by relying on the truth. During your days as a temporary resident in this world, prepare yourself to receive the inheritance of the kingdom of heaven. Because you hope for the eternal life God has promised, hold firmly to your faith and follow the Lord to the end. Until the days God has appointed for you to live as a temporary resident in this world are fulfilled, do not turn away from the true way. In the future, you will enter God’s eternal kingdom, share the inheritance with all the saints, and receive the eternal life God has promised.
