Why does a person’s life always seem so short and full of trouble? It is because people do not walk in the way that pleases God, but instead walk on paths that turn away from the truth. They do not live fully according to God’s righteous standards, nor do they fear God, and so they fall into sin. Those who belong to God will receive His discipline so that they may turn back and no longer continue down a path that leads to the destruction of their souls. Because of this, people will also go through things they may not want to face, yet must experience in order to let go of their old habits and their old selves. If a person’s heart does not fully abide in the Lord, when faced with the devil’s temptations and enticements, they can easily turn away from the truth and do things that displease God. They struggle constantly within the conscience God has given them, losing their peace and joy and finding no rest in their hearts.
But people still have a choice. They can choose from the very beginning to follow the Lord Jesus, take God’s truth as the standard for how they live and conduct themselves, and walk in the way that pleases God. They can willingly receive God’s loving and merciful teaching and guidance and live each day with the Lord by their side. In doing so, they can not only testify to God’s grace and the work He has done in their lives, but also receive true peace and joy and enjoy the freedom God gives.
But if people choose the world, refuse to receive the grace God gives, take His kindness lightly, willingly follow the ways of the world, and fall under the power of the devil, they will gradually drift away from God and lose true freedom and peace. Even if they gain wealth in this life and enjoy the pleasures of the world, those pleasures can only last for a little while. Everything passes away in the blink of an eye. In the end, all they gain is emptiness; none of it can last forever, and they can only spend their lives sighing with regret.
The truth is, when a person does not have the one true God of heaven in their heart, even if they possess everything this world has to offer, they still cannot truly satisfy their soul, nor can they understand the true value and meaning of life.
May you gain wisdom and choose the better blessing. Be willing to obey God’s commands, walk in the way of righteousness, and live a life set apart for God. We are only travelers and temporary residents in this world. When we truly understand the meaning of life, we will no longer be bound by the desires of the flesh or live as people controlled by the flesh, but instead live a spiritual life. Therefore, do not place your hope for life in this present world. Then your life will no longer be merely short and full of sorrow. Because of the hope of eternal life that God gives, you can have hope not only in this life, but also joy and contentment and peace in your heart. And this hope continues into the life to come, when you enter the kingdom of heaven and enjoy its eternal blessings.
