(2026.05.07. Comfort from the Holy Spirit)
God loves all people and has given us life, breath, everything we have, and the hope of eternal life. Since we have received everything from God, we should respond to His love with thanksgiving and love. We should come before Him with reverence and gratitude, offering Him the kind of sacrifice that pleases Him.
What should people today offer to God so that their offering will be accepted by Him? In the past, people offered the fruit of their labor to God. Cain brought some of the produce of the ground, while Abel offered the firstborn of his flock and the fat portions. Yet God accepted Abel and his offering, but He did not accept Cain and his offering. Why was that?
God does not look only at the outward act of offering a sacrifice. He also looks at what is being offered and whether the heart of the person offering it is acceptable to Him.
The same is true in serving God today. What we offer should not be based on our own ideas or personal ways of doing things. Neither should we think that our service pleases God simply because it looks impressive or because we are enthusiastic. Today, many people serve in the church and appear to work zealously for the Lord, yet their lives are still controlled by sin. They serve with complaints. They are jealous, quarrel with one another, live without peace, and hate their brothers and sisters. They still lie and are dishonest. They remain proud and depend on their own strength. Their hearts still love the world. God clearly sees every thought and every action in a person’s life.
Do not be like those in the past who offered blemished sacrifices to God. Although people today no longer offer bulls or sheep as sacrifices, what we now offer is our own heart and a spiritually holy life. If we continue living in sin while offering an unclean life to God, such a sacrifice is not accepted by Him and does not please Him.
Instead, come before God with a humble and reverent heart. Quietly reflect and first understand what kind of sacrifice God truly desires, then offer what pleases Him. God is not lacking sacrifices. What He values is whether we offer ourselves to Him as holy living sacrifices, turn away from sin, allow our lives to be renewed and transformed, live in a way that pleases the Lord, and completely belong to God.
Always examine your own heart and your actions carefully. Are your heart, your eyes, your mouth, and your hands pure? Are you following the example of the Lord Jesus? Is your life continually being renewed and producing the fruit of righteousness as an offering to God?
Before we knew God, when we lived in sin, our hearts were often filled with greed. Now, are we truly thankful and content with what we have? In the past, we easily argued with others, lived without peace, and hated people. Now, can we love others, be patient, and willingly give way? In the past, we chased the desires of our eyes and fixed our attention on the pleasures of this world. Now, can we look at things with spiritual eyes, fix our hearts on heaven, and keep ourselves free from spiritual defilement? In the past, we were accustomed to lying. Now that the truth has shined upon us, do we have honest and upright hearts? What our hands choose to do should no longer be for our own benefit or to impress others. Instead, because we love God, we should willingly offer everything we have to Him.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. Worship the one true God in heaven in spirit and in truth. No longer serve God according to the flesh. Turn your heart away from this sinful world and offer yourself to Him with a pure heart. Follow the Lord with an undivided heart, live a godly life, and fulfill the purpose God has prepared for you on earth.
When what we offer is pleasing to God, He will also give every heavenly blessing to His children, and His grace will remain with them forever.
Scripture
Genesis
Chapter 4 Verses 3-5
And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
1 Samuel
Chapter 15 Verses 22-23
And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.
Malachi
Chapter 1 Verses 7-10
Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.
And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.
Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nought? neither do ye kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
Romans
Chapter 12 Verse 1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
