Do not allow yourself to continue living in darkness. Do not become someone who appears spiritual on the outside and is called a Christian, while still being controlled by the flesh within.
Spiritual life must be built with wholehearted effort and carefully maintained for a long time, until the end of one’s days on earth. It does not mean that once you believe in the Lord, your life is already complete and you no longer need to pursue the truth. Nor does it mean that after receiving grace and salvation, you may relax and stop being watchful and prepared. People are still living in a world filled with sin and temptation. They must continue to fight against the flesh, resist the evil one, and guard against the unseen devil, who constantly tempts people to leave God.
The walls around your heart must be built with the truth, so that you may become strong and have no openings through which evil can enter. Only then can you avoid sinking into corruption together with the people of this world, avoid being swept away by the currents of the world, and be set apart from this sinful world.
Do not open the door of your heart to the evil one. The devil is always looking for opportunities to tempt people into sin and gradually corrupt their spiritual lives. When evil thoughts arise in the heart, they give the devil a place to work. Sin is also like something lying at the door, desiring to control a person’s life. You must always resist evil and not allow sin to grow continually in the heart like yeast. Otherwise, over time, a person may begin to live together with sin and gradually become numb to it.
When bitterness, complaining, or hatred arises in your heart, you must bring it under control immediately and not allow it to continue growing within you. Do not be like Cain, who was overcome by evil. His anger was stirred up, and resentment filled his heart. In the end, he killed his own brother Abel.
After Cain sinned, he did not examine his own wrongdoing. Instead, he believed that what he had done was not wrong and that he was only seeking justice for himself. When God asked Cain, “Where is Abel?” he answered, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” He did not honestly admit his sin. Instead, he answered God with words of complaint and dissatisfaction.
But can anyone deceive God? How can all the thoughts hidden in a person’s heart and everything done in secret escape God’s eyes?
Do not allow yourself to live in sin. You must honestly face your own mistakes. Without repentance and without turning away from sin, the final result will be the wages of sin—death. Do not allow yourself to fall onto a cursed path, causing your soul to wander restlessly through the world, your spiritual life to grow weaker and weaker, and your life to become separated from the life of God.
When a person loses the Lord’s presence, that person can also easily be troubled and attacked by the evil one and will not have true peace within. Do not be like Cain and allow sin to enter your life. You must always stay away from evil, pursue holiness, walk on the path that pleases God, and become a person accepted by Him.
In this way, during the days of your temporary stay on earth, you will continually enjoy the grace, joy, and peace given by God, and in the future, you will enter the eternal rest found in the Lord.
