(2026.04.29. The Encouragement of the Holy Spirit)
God’s commands and warnings are meant for people to obey. Keep them in your heart so that your spiritual life may remain alive. Those who keep the Lord’s commandments will not stray from the right path or walk down the road of sin that leads to destruction.
People are fleshly by nature, and the flesh is weak. It is often drawn away by sinful desires, attracted to what the eyes see, and eager for worldly pleasures. Therefore, do not live according to the flesh, but live by the Holy Spirit and hold firmly to the truth. If God’s word is not in your heart, you will not be able to resist the temptations of the world. What seems pleasing at first can eventually lead a person into corruption and ruin.
Take warning from what happened to Eve. The serpent’s temptation did not come all at once. It was a step-by-step process. First, it set a trap, and then it placed many kinds of bait along the path leading to that trap.
The serpent said to the woman, “Did God really say that you must not eat from any tree in the garden?” By doing this, it caused her to question God’s word, and her thoughts gradually began to turn away from what was right.
The woman replied that they could eat from the trees in the garden, except for the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Although she remembered God’s command, she added to it by saying, “You must not touch it, or you will die.” Yet God had said that they would surely die if they ate from it. God’s word must not be changed. Right and wrong are clearly defined by Him, and no one should add to or take away from what He has spoken.
Because her heart was not firmly established, she gave the serpent an opportunity. The serpent continued to tempt her and said, “You will not surely die.” Instead of resisting the temptation, the woman accepted the serpent’s words and forgot God’s command. When she saw that the fruit was pleasing to the eye, desirable, and able to make one wise, she took some and ate it.
The same question applies to us today. Have we engraved God’s word in our hearts and remembered His commandments? Through the Scriptures, we can understand what God wants us to do, and we should follow His instructions. We should not allow even a small amount of sin into our lives, because the thought of doing evil can arise in only a moment.
When the Holy Spirit warns or reminds us, we should not ignore His prompting. We should immediately turn away from anything connected to sin and give no opportunity to the devil. In this way, we will not swallow the bait that the devil has prepared or run toward the path of sin and destruction. God commands people not to do evil or practice unrighteousness because He desires to preserve their souls.
In the Garden of Eden there were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God commanded Adam and Eve that they were free to eat from every tree in the garden, except from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. For on the day they ate from it, they would surely die.
Today, God has given people free will so that they may choose. People should choose life instead of sin. They should choose eternal life instead of sharing in evil. They should not continue in sin and bring destruction upon themselves. They should remember the cost of sin and the outcome awaiting those who refuse to repent while living in it.
Therefore, during our time as strangers and pilgrims in this world, we should rely on the Lord Jesus, depend on the help of the Holy Spirit, guard our hearts, hold firmly to the true faith, and remain faithful until the Lord returns.

I was almost in all evil
