(February 7, 2026 — The Encouragement of the Holy Spirit)
After being baptized, it does not mean that we no longer need to put effort into our faith. Before baptism, a person seeks the truth and longs to know God. Through this pursuit, they come to understand that there is an eternal life truly worth seeking and hoping for. Because of this, their heart becomes firm and they are willing to belong to the Lord.
The Lord redeemed us with His precious blood. After baptism, we should strive even more in spiritual devotion, reading the Bible, and seeking a deeper knowledge of God. We should seek to understand God’s will so that our lives may be renewed and we may walk on the path that pleases Him. No longer living in our former worldly ways, we instead walk on the path of sanctification and purification, keeping ourselves in the Lord and remaining watchful at all times.
Even though a person’s sins have been washed away by the Lord’s precious blood and their life has become different, spiritual warfare still remains. The devil constantly tries to steal people’s hearts, tempting them to love the world instead of loving God, causing them to fall again under the power of sin and live in a way that does not match the new life the Lord has given. This leads people toward death. The devil also seeks to destroy the spiritual life of those who belong to the Lord so that they cannot grow in Him or bear fruit. In the end, people may lose their trust in God and their hunger for the truth, gradually drifting away from salvation.
But if we set our eyes on the things above and use our precious time to pursue the truth, to understand and know God, our hearts will no longer be fixed on the world. We will not waste our energy and time on things of this world that have no true value. We will also be less easily tempted by the evil one in this world, so that as we run the path toward the kingdom of heaven we will not stop moving forward. When different situations come upon us, we will not doubt God, stumble in temptation, or be struck down by trials and abandon Him.
We should live by faith and look toward the hope of our heavenly home. We should live a godly and holy life, producing the virtues that a Christian should have and continually bearing the fruit of righteousness. Through the life of Christ within us, we can influence the lives of many others.
But if after baptism a person does not strive to pursue the Lord, does not live in reverence toward God, does not turn away from evil, and does not live a life set apart for holiness, it is like their spiritual eyes have become blind, as if they are short-sighted. They cannot see God and do not truly know Him. Their way of living appears unrelated to the Lord. They continue to live according to their own desires like the Gentiles, forgetting that they were once cleansed by the Lord’s precious blood and set free from the control of sin. They again stain the holy white garment the Lord has given them, and gradually drift off the path that leads to eternal life in the heavenly kingdom.
If we truly treasure the eternal life the Lord has given and value the things of heaven, we should be diligent and persistent, not becoming idle and unfruitful people. We must hold firmly to the grace that God has given. For the gate of the kingdom of heaven is narrow, and only those who strive can enter.
God is the righteous and just Judge. Eternal life and everlasting glory in the Lord are prepared by God for those who endure to the end in this life, who diligently walk the path of the kingdom of heaven, and who pursue holiness.
The Lord has already prepared the entrance into the eternal kingdom for all people. While there is still opportunity, people should hold tightly to it and must not take lightly the salvation that the Lord has given.
Scripture
Proverbs
Chapter 24 Verses 30–34
“I went by the field of the slothful,
and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns,
and nettles had covered the face thereof,
and the stone wall thereof was broken down.
Then I saw, and considered it well:
I looked upon it, and received instruction.
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to sleep:
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth;
and thy want as an armed man.”
Proverbs
Chapter 20 Verse 4
“The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold;
therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.”
Isaiah
Chapter 1 Verses 16–20
“Wash you, make you clean;
put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes;
cease to do evil;
Learn to do well;
seek judgment, relieve the oppressed,
judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD:
though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow;
though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
If ye be willing and obedient,
ye shall eat the good of the land:
But if ye refuse and rebel,
ye shall be devoured with the sword:
for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.”
John
Chapter 15 Verses 5–8
“I am the vine, ye are the branches.
He that abideth in me, and I in him,
the same bringeth forth much fruit:
for without me ye can do nothing.
If a man abide not in me,
he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered;
and men gather them, and cast them into the fire,
and they are burned.
If ye abide in me,
and my words abide in you,
ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Herein is my Father glorified,
that ye bear much fruit;
so shall ye be my disciples.”
