(2026.04.07 The Encouragement of the Holy Spirit)
In the past, God brought His people, the Israelites, out of Egypt and led them into the wilderness. In the same way, after we believe in the Lord, God also calls us out from the world. This is grace. It is for preserving our souls, so that we may learn the ways of God’s kingdom, leave sin behind, and be separated from the corruption of the world. For if a person is not born again, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.
Since we have received salvation, God has already rescued us from the hand of the devil. Then people must also do their part—fear God, let their hearts be separated from the world, and enter the place of rest that God has prepared. There, away from the world’s attractions and temptations, people can focus on learning to depend on God alone. The wilderness is not only a place of training and refinement, nor is it only for teaching people to obey God’s commandments. More than that, it is to help people understand that we do not live by depending on the world, but by depending on the Lord, because He is the source of life. In the wilderness, it is like eating manna from heaven every day and drinking water flowing from the rock—receiving spiritual nourishment in Christ, feeding the soul with God’s word, growing in the Lord, becoming spiritually stronger, and being made holy and complete.
Now that we believe in the Lord and belong to Him, we should remain connected to Him. Our hearts must no longer be bound by the world, nor should we remain in the world where the devil rules. For he uses all kinds of ways to tempt people, making them care only about the satisfaction of this present life, become used to worldly pleasures, grow greedy, and never feel satisfied with the things of the world. If a person allows the world to fill the heart, that person falls under Satan’s power. If this continues for a long time, spiritual life will slowly dry up, move away from the source of life, and in the end, the person will not enter eternal life. After the body returns to dust, what remains is judgment, and eternal punishment together with him.
As children of God, we should ask for wisdom from above, so that our souls may be kept safe and so that we may understand the path we should walk in this life. After believing in the Lord, our hearts must be separated from the world. We must no longer live the way we used to, in the days that displeased God. We should not follow the speech, behavior, and customs of worldly people, nor continue to love the things of this world. We must not think that lying, greed for money, or doing what may seem like small things that are not in line with God’s righteousness is acceptable. God examines the human heart and knows every thought and intention. These things give the devil an opportunity. If small sins are not dealt with, and uncleanness is not removed, sin can easily entangle a person. It can also slowly cause a person to lose the fear of God and no longer be concerned about what displeases Him. If a person continues to practice unrighteousness without repentance, how can that person enter the holy kingdom of heaven in the future?
If someone has received the redeeming grace of the Lord Jesus but is still unwilling to separate from the world and chooses to remain in it, this brings no benefit to spiritual life. What such a person learns is no different from what the world learns—it is only worldly customs and knowledge, which have nothing to do with salvation. Spiritual life cannot grow, and such a person can easily be tempted and deceived by the devil. Only in the Lord, by entering the wilderness and receiving the teaching of truth, can a person use the limited time in this life to prepare to enter the eternal heavenly home that God has prepared.
We should set our hearts firmly on pursuing holiness and walking in God’s ways. God will give strength to those who ask Him, giving them faith to depend fully on the Lord, remain hidden in Him, and receive His care and protection. He will continue to provide spiritual food from heaven to sustain life. In the wilderness, people come to know God more deeply, understand His will and guidance, go through testing and refinement, put off the old self, gradually mature, grow stronger spiritually, and experience renewed life.
We must understand this clearly: the wilderness is not meant to make people suffer, but is God’s grace given to preserve the human soul.
