God has already given you everything that relates to life and godliness. Those who believe in the Lord should diligently pursue spiritual wisdom. Do not waste your time on empty and meaningless things. Instead, treasure the precious time God has given and understand how you should live. In this way your spiritual life can grow and mature, becoming the firstfruits that belong to God—set apart and pleasing to the Lord. During the limited days of your life, practice living a heavenly life. No longer live for yourself, but live for the will of God. Let your life be purified and built up in this present world, preparing yourself to enter the eternal kingdom that is to come.

God has opened the door of the eternal kingdom to all people and has allowed them to hear the good news of the gospel. Since you have been called by God and chosen by Him, you should walk according to His will on the path each person ought to follow in this life, living out the life of the righteous. In this way, when the Lord appears again at His coming, the righteous will reveal the life of those who have been set apart by God and renewed as new creations. They will become holy and blameless people who can stand before the Lord without fear at the judgment seat. Because they have gone through training and purification in this life, they will receive the crown of glory that never fades and lasts forever.

While living in this world, strive earnestly to enter the kingdom of heaven. In order to receive God’s precious and very great promises, you must accept spiritual training and devote your heart to the things of heaven. This enables people to escape the corruption and destruction brought by the world’s sinful desires. Therefore, you should be even more diligent in growing your spiritual life. Be rooted in faith, for without faith a person cannot draw near to God. In faith, cultivate the character that Christians should have, so that what you believe does not remain only in words but is lived out in practice. Add spiritual wisdom to your character so that you can understand God’s will, not turning aside from the right path or following the ways of the world. In wisdom learn self-control, restraining yourself and not being led by sinful desires. In self-control practice perseverance, holding firmly to the hope you had at the beginning, patiently waiting for the Lord’s return and not complaining when facing trials. In perseverance maintain a reverent heart toward God, living according to His will and submitting to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. In godliness add brotherly love, so that your life produces love for brothers and love for all people, because love covers many faults. Because you love God and love others, you should value your own soul and keep your life holy. You should also value the souls of others and proclaim the gospel that brings eternal life, so that God’s name may be glorified and the number of people in His kingdom may continually increase.

Christians should continually grow in their spiritual life and live out all the spiritual qualities mentioned above. Conduct your life according to God’s righteous standard, allowing your spiritual life to gradually mature in the Lord while pursuing a holy life. By walking in this way on the road that leads to the kingdom of heaven, you will not be stained by corruption, your spiritual life will not decay, and you will be able to stand firm in trials and temptations. In this way your life will be kept safe, and you will not fall.

Scripture

Second Peter

Chapter 1 Verses 3–8, 10–11

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness,

through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises:

that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature,

having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue;

and to virtue knowledge;

And to knowledge temperance;

and to temperance patience;

and to patience godliness;

And to godliness brotherly kindness;

and to brotherly kindness charity.

For if these things be in you, and abound,

they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful

in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure:

for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly

into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Proverbs

Chapter 4 Verses 1–2, 5–13

Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father,

and attend to know understanding.

For I give you good doctrine,

forsake ye not my law.

Get wisdom, get understanding:

forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee:

love her, and she shall keep thee.

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom:

and with all thy getting get understanding.

Exalt her, and she shall promote thee:

she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace:

a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.

Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings;

and the years of thy life shall be many.

I have taught thee in the way of wisdom;

I have led thee in right paths.

When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened;

and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go:

keep her; for she is thy life.

Romans

Chapter 6 Verses 22–23

But now being made free from sin,

and become servants to God,

ye have your fruit unto holiness,

and the end everlasting life.

For the wages of sin is death;

but the gift of God is eternal life

through Jesus Christ our Lord.
