(2026.01.07 The Encouragement of the Holy Spirit)
In the time of the Old Covenant, the high priest had to enter the Most Holy Place once every year, all by himself, bringing blood to offer sacrifices for his own sins and for the sins of all the people.
However, this kind of sacrifice could only cover sin temporarily; it could never truly remove sin.
Even though outward acts of atonement were performed, a person’s conscience was still not cleansed, life could not be renewed, and people remained under the power and control of sin.
Because God loves the world and does not want anyone to fall forever under judgment because of sin, He personally prepared a better and eternal covenant.
He established Jesus Christ as the atoning sacrifice.
Only through the precious blood of the Lord can sin truly be taken away.
Our Savior Jesus Christ became the High Priest in order to redeem people from the power of sin.
He offered Himself once and for all, accomplishing eternal redemption.
Through this single sacrifice, those who are chosen and set apart are made completely holy, and the effect of His sacrifice continues without interruption.
This is no longer like the sacrifices of the Old Covenant, which could only temporarily cover sin and had to be offered again and again.
When a person turns back to God through faith and truly repents, their sins are washed away by the precious blood of the Lord, and they are reborn.
Their life moves from being sinful and defiled into a life of holiness.
The Lord no longer remembers the accumulated consequences of their past sins, which they rightly deserved, nor their offenses of straying from the right path.
He no longer holds against them their deliberate acts of evil, or any lawless and unrighteous deeds and transgressions.
Since we have been saved, and our sins forgiven through the precious blood of the Lord, and since our outward, visible bodies have also been washed with clean water as we are baptized into the Lord, we should all the more continually examine our inner life.
We must test whether we are obeying the guidance of the Holy Spirit and whether our hearts are being renewed as well.
Those who believe in the Lord should become new creations in Him and no longer live according to the old way of life.
If life is to be changed, it must begin with recognizing sin and understanding what God dislikes and hates.
People must see their own weakness and rely on God’s word to correct the path under their feet.
If, for a moment, they are overcome by evil, they should immediately wake up and repent, learn to hate sin, reject sin, turn away from sin, and grow to love holiness and goodness.
Believers should also recognize their identity.
Through the precious blood of the Lord Jesus, after baptism, we are set apart as holy and become honored priests.
When a person examines themselves and finds no crookedness within, no place where the evil one can accuse them, they can stand without fear and boldly enter the Most Holy Place, come before the Lord Jesus, and have fellowship with Him.
God freely gives grace and grants us salvation.
We receive this salvation by faith, our sins are forgiven, and we enter into a covenant relationship with the Lord Jesus.
Therefore, we should hold firmly to this holy covenant, clothe ourselves with holiness, and become people who are pleasing to God and fully devoted to serving the Lord.
Scripture
Hebrews
Chapter 7 Verses 16–19
Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment,
but after the power of an endless life.
For he testifieth, Thou art a priest for ever
after the order of Melchisedec.
For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before
for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
For the law made nothing perfect,
but the bringing in of a better hope did;
by the which we draw nigh unto God.
Hebrews
Chapter 8 Verse 6
But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry,
by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant,
which was established upon better promises.
Hebrews
Chapter 9 Verses 22–28
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood;
and without shedding of blood is no remission.
It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens
should be purified with these;
but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands,
which are the figures of the true;
but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
Nor yet that he should offer himself often,
as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others;
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world:
but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared
to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.
And as it is appointed unto men once to die,
but after this the judgment:
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many;
and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time
without sin unto salvation.
