A Life of Vanity

A Life of Vanity

(Received in prayer on 2025.5.23)

Your life is like a mist—it appears briefly, then vanishes.

But in the short time you have on this earth, what will you do?

Will you live with hope in eternal life? Or will you fix your eyes on this present world and simply wait for death?

I did not create you to live a life just waiting to die. I want you to seek the heavenly life—the life that leads to eternity.

Think about it: day after day passes for people in this world. Each day that ends is one less day to live. The body grows old and draws nearer to death.

Many chase after wealth, thinking it will satisfy their hearts. But they end up working their whole lives without rest, unable to enjoy what they’ve earned.

As the years go on, the burdens only increase. Worries pile up in their hearts, and they live in anxiety and sorrow. Some even grow weary of life and no longer wish to go on living.

What kind of life is that?

If you don’t know the God who created you, and you have no understanding of the grace of salvation, then your life has no true value. It’s a tragedy.

A life that belongs to this world is short and passes quickly. If you spend your youth chasing worldly things, pouring your energy into busyness and worry, then by the time you’re old, you will have nothing left to enjoy—only hopeless days, waiting for death. That is a vain life.

With the limited time you have, you should pursue the life that leads to eternity. Don’t waste your days chasing the pleasures of this world. The devil tempts you to crave enjoyment, stirring up greed that can never be satisfied. But this will not bring you true benefit—only sorrow.

Those who live for worldly pleasures become fools. They fix their gaze on what is temporary and forget to prepare for what is eternal.

What are you striving for in this life?

One day, each person will be judged by their actions. You will reap what you sow.

Will you inherit eternal suffering? Or eternal joy?

It all depends on the choices you make and how you live your life now.

May you choose what is truly best. Strive to receive eternal life. Pursue holiness, and become a citizen of the kingdom of heaven—so that in the end, you may enter into the glorious kingdom to come.

Scripture

James

Chapter 4 Verses 13-15

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town

and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”—

yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring.

What is your life?

For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills,

we will live and do this or that.”

Ephesians

Chapter 2 Verses 1-13

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins

in which you once walked, following the course of this world,

following the prince of the power of the air,

the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—

among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh,

carrying out the desires of the body and the mind,

and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.

But God, being rich in mercy,

because of the great love with which he loved us,

even when we were dead in our trespasses,

made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—

and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace

in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

For by grace you have been saved through faith.

And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

For we are his workmanship,

created in Christ Jesus for good works,

which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Therefore remember that at one time you Gentiles in the flesh,

called “the uncircumcision” by what is called the circumcision,

which is made in the flesh by hands—

remember that you were at that time separated from Christ,

alienated from the commonwealth of Israel

and strangers to the covenants of promise,

having no hope and without God in the world.

But now in Christ Jesus

you who once were far off

have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

Ecclesiastes

Chapter 11 Verses 9-10

Rejoice, O young man, in your youth,

and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth.

Walk in the ways of your heart and the sight of your eyes.

But know that for all these things

God will bring you into judgment.

Remove vexation from your heart,

and put away pain from your body,

for youth and the dawn of life are vanity.
