Searching online for the Rose of Sharon reveals a beautiful story. In the Bible, it is recorded that near the Mediterranean Sea, roses grow in wetlands along the coast of Sharon. In fact, they look like tulips and each plant only produces one flower. They can grow up to ten inches tall with deep red flowers that are almost black at the base. In ancient Persian tradition, the Rose of Sharon was considered a symbol of love. When a man gave this deep red flower to a woman he loved, it meant that his heart was burned through like petals and even burned black like calyxes. It was unique and passionate.

The Rose of Sharon blooms among thorns. Despite their prickliness, roses can still thrive among thorns and emit fragrance and beauty. Just as God wants us to be fearless in difficult situations despite changes in our surroundings. Even if our environment is tempting or painful or daunting, as long as we look up to the Lord we will see how carefully He takes care of us and how carefully He plants us. He surrounds us with his fiery love. Thank you Lord for your love for us that never gives up on us.
