You must take the past as a warning. The people who came out of Egypt and walked through the wilderness—at first, they knew they were headed for the land of Canaan. But in the end, how many actually arrived?

Just like today, many have received the baptism of forgiveness and know my teachings through the Bible. They’ve heard my commandments and begun their journey of faith. Yet their spirits are asleep. Their hearts are fixed on satisfying the needs of the flesh. They live for their bodies. They’re like the Israelites who followed the crowd out of slavery in Egypt—though their bodies left Egypt, their hearts never truly did.

I gave them manna from heaven every day, but they grew tired of it. They complained because of their cravings and didn’t want to walk the path I had prepared. Instead, they insisted on going their own way.

Today, people who were once slaves to the world and Satan have been redeemed at a high price through my precious blood. They’ve joined the ranks of those destined for the heavenly kingdom. Yet many are still not pleasing to me. Like those in the past, they crave the things of the world. Their greed is idolatry. They constantly ask for more, only living to satisfy their physical desires.

Don’t you know that before reaching the Promised Land, you must pass through a great and terrible wilderness? You will face many battles—just like I did, with the devil’s temptations. You will be tested, to see if your faith can endure, whether you have a heart that obeys, and whether you’re willing to follow my will.

Time is running out. Why are you still sleeping, not staying alert? You must take up your cross and put your sinful nature to death. Be careful, or you’ll end up like those who died in the wilderness. They could’ve lived, but their spiritual lives perished.

I give you heavenly manna—spiritual food that quenches your hunger and thirst. My light guides you. It empowers you to control your desires and stay away from sin. Live by the Spirit.

Even though the wilderness is vast and frightening, do not fear. You take refuge in me. I am your Savior. Keep your eyes on the things above. Eat the manna I give you daily—my Word, my teachings—and let them become your strength on this journey toward the heavenly kingdom. You will become spiritually strong and brave, able to win every battle, and keep moving forward—until you finally reach the holy kingdom I have promised you.

Scripture

1 Corinthians

Chapter 10 Verses 1–6

For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud,

and all passed through the sea,

and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,

and all ate the same spiritual food,

and all drank the same spiritual drink.

For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.

Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.

Colossians

Chapter 3 Verse 5, Verses 8–10

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.

But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth.

Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices

and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

2 Corinthians

Chapter 13 Verse 5

Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves.

Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?

—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!

John

Chapter 6 Verse 35

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to Me shall not hunger,

and whoever believes in Me shall never thirst.”
