(2026.06.01. Comfort from the Holy Spirit)
Love one another. Forgive and be patient with one another, because love covers many sins.
Without love, people cannot truly love others or love God. For God is love. If people are separated from God, they cannot live out genuine love. When people make themselves the center of their lives instead of God, they easily follow their own sinful desires. Their hearts are often filled with evil, and the things they do are also evil. Sinful desires come from our sinful nature and are not pleasing to God. Therefore, guard your heart carefully, because everything in your life flows from it.
In history, Noah became drunk and lay uncovered in his tent. His son Ham was the first to see what had happened. The first thing Ham did was go and tell his two brothers. But after Shem and Japheth heard about it, they first took a garment to cover their father. Then they walked backward into the tent and covered him without looking at their father’s nakedness.
This reminds us that those who have received God’s grace must not lose their spiritual alertness during times of comfort or become careless with themselves. Although Noah was a righteous man whom God had saved, he lost his watchfulness after the flood because he became drunk. Therefore, on the journey of faith, we must remain self-controlled and stay alert. Do not become spiritually asleep, and do not cause others to stumble because of your own weakness.
When you see the weakness of others, keep a heart that fears God. Do not look down on them, and do not spread or talk about their failures everywhere, exposing their weakness to shame. Instead, show mercy, accept their weakness, cover them with love, and help restore those who have fallen. Lend them a helping hand, support and encourage them, respect them, and also use the truth to lovingly correct them, so that those who are weak will not remain discouraged because of their mistakes. Instead, they may recognize where they have fallen short, turn back to God, correct themselves, and become strong again.
For even those who are strong have had times of weakness. Before knowing God and understanding the truth, they also stumbled because they were not careful. The Lord Jesus has treated us with grace. He prepared salvation to cover the shame of our sins. Therefore, we should have the same heart as Christ. Just as the Lord has shown mercy to us, we should also show mercy to others.
Because of what Shem and Japheth did, they later received their father Noah’s blessing. This reminds us to be careful with our words and actions, to fear God, and to walk in the path of righteousness. In the end, everyone will receive the results of what they have done.
Ham, however, was not careful with his words and actions. Instead, he spread his father’s shame to others. As a result, a curse followed, and Canaan became a servant to his brothers.
Everyone should keep their conduct pure before God, because every unrighteous act will eventually bring its consequences. If people fear God, hold firmly to the truth, and walk with Him, they will not only receive God’s blessings themselves, but also pass on a God-fearing faith to the next generation, so that generation after generation may fear God and remain in His love and grace. This is a great blessing.
Scripture
Genesis
Chapter 9 Verses 20-27
And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.
And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.
1 Peter
Chapter 4 Verses 8-9
And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
Galatians
Chapter 6 Verses 1-5
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
For every man shall bear his own burden.
