(2026.06.02. Comfort from the Holy Spirit)
The Bible tells us that Cush, the son of Ham, became the father of Nimrod. Scripture describes Nimrod as a mighty warrior before the Lord. He became the first powerful ruler on the earth. People often admire those who possess great ability, wisdom, and influence. Yet no matter how capable a person may be, human strength is still limited. Every bit of wisdom, ability, and life we have is given by God. Therefore, we should never rely on our own understanding but always acknowledge God. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. If people depend only on their own abilities instead of seeking God’s guidance, they will easily follow their own way. Only those who fear God and rely on Him can walk in the path that pleases Him.
At that time, the whole world spoke one language and used the same words. As people migrated, they came to a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. They said to one another, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top reaching to the sky, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
God had blessed Noah and his sons and commanded them to be fruitful, multiply, and fill the earth. Yet their descendants were unwilling to spread throughout the earth. Instead, they gathered together in one place. They wanted to build a city and a tower and make a name for themselves. Their concern was not God’s will but their own plans. They sought not to glorify God but to glorify themselves. Whenever people stop seeking God’s will, they naturally begin to follow their own path.
God’s purpose has never changed. From beginning to end, His desire is to establish His kingdom on the earth. This was already His plan in the days of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. God desires people to fear Him, obey His will, become His people, and stay away from the path of evil. His desire has always been to bless those who belong to Him.
Yet the human heart has not changed. There is nothing new under the sun. What happened long ago continues to happen today. The story of the Tower of Babel is not only a historical event; it is also a picture of many people today. People want to plan their lives according to their own ideas while ignoring God’s leading. In the end, they drift away from His guidance and lose the blessings He originally intended to give them.
No one should become proud, for we are only dust created by God. Without God creating all things and giving us life and wisdom, we would have nothing at all. Without fearing God and humbly submitting to Him, no amount of worldly wisdom can lead a person to know the truth or receive the blessings that God gives. People who think they are wise are actually foolish. Those who leave God cannot overcome the deception of the ruler of this world—the devil—by their own strength, and they fall into the traps he has prepared. They become captivated by the empty glory of the world, live with themselves at the center, build their own Tower of Babel within their hearts, and worship the idols they have made for themselves. In the end, they turn away from the truth and walk toward destruction.
Instead, come humbly before God and depend on the Lord with all your heart. Seek God’s will, obey His leading, and walk in the path of righteousness and justice. True blessing comes from God, not from the world. Everything on earth will pass away, but the blessings God gives will last forever.
Turn back to God and walk on the path that leads to eternal life. Come to know the one true God who created heaven and earth and all things. He came into the world in the flesh as the Lord Jesus Christ to bring people back from the path of destruction to the path of eternal life.
