(2026.03.12. The Encouragement of the Holy Spirit)
Those who have come under the Lord’s name should obey His commandments, hold firmly to the true faith, and keep themselves holy. God continually examines a person’s heart and actions to see whether they are truly living according to His way. Those who long for eternal life and hope to enter the kingdom of heaven should follow the Lord’s teaching. Those who belong to the Lord should often examine their own hearts, words, and actions, and consider whether their thoughts, behavior, and speech match the identity of a Christian. They should keep a pure and honest heart, speak no slander or evil words, tell no lies, and walk uprightly.
But there are some believers who, although they regularly attend worship gatherings and zealously work for the Lord, do not pursue understanding in the truth. They do not clearly understand the truth, they lack spiritual wisdom, and they do not seek God’s will. They still rely on their own thoughts and use themselves as the standard for how they live. Some still chase after the world, hold greed in their hearts, lie and deceive others, hold on to bitterness, refuse to forgive, love strife, and do not live in peace with others. Because of this, they become defiled and stain their holy white garments. They do not value God’s righteousness, nor do they examine themselves, and before God they are still incomplete people. Such people must be watchful and repent.
Some have already received salvation and had their sins washed away by the Lord’s precious blood, yet they turn back toward the world and continue doing unrighteous things. They only carry the name of being Christians, but do not have the life a Christian should have. By name and position, they have already been cleansed in the Lord and separated from sin. Their life should be alive, yet it has become dead again. They do not treasure the salvation God has given them. They have not kept themselves holy, but have gone back to their former unclean and sinful way of life, and their hearts have not truly turned back to God.
Christians should examine themselves and see whether they are walking on the right path, the path that can save the soul, or whether they have already turned away from the right way and are unknowingly heading toward destruction.
They should often think about the Lord’s love, and also think about how the Lord has loved them and gave Himself for them. Their hearts should be soft and humble, willing to receive the Holy Spirit’s reminders and obey the Holy Spirit’s leading, so that the life that is weak or nearly dying may be strengthened again and become strong once more. They must stay watchful at all times, remembering how they first heard the gospel and by faith came under the Lord’s name. They should also remember how they received the Lord’s grace, and so they must repent and hold fast to the faith they have received.
Christians must stay watchful and be prepared, because you are meant to inherit eternal life and receive the inheritance of the kingdom of heaven. Since you have received salvation, your sins have been washed away, and your life has been made new, you should keep yourselves holy, stay away from sin, live a life that pursues the truth, and keep renewing your spiritual life. You must no longer share in sin or let your garments be stained with defilement. For our whole life is meant to be spent walking with the Lord, and those who walk with the Lord must pursue holiness, wear white garments, and live in a way that matches the identity of a Christian. Because the Lord is holy, He makes people worthy to walk with Him. Therefore, you should carefully guard your heart and your conduct, hold fast to the true faith, stay watchful in your daily life, and make sure your name remains written in the Book of Life and is not blotted out, until the day you see the Lord.
Scripture
Revelation
Chapter 3 Verses 1-5
“And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God.
Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.
Thou hast a few names even in Sardis which have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with me in white: for they are worthy.
He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.”
Zechariah
Chapter 3 Verses 3-7
“Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel.
And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment.
And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by.
And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying,
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by.”
Proverbs
Chapter 4 Verses 23-27
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established.
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.”
Revelation
Chapter 19 Verses 7-9
“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.”
