When your strength is gone, when your body and mind are worn out, and when your pain feels overwhelming, look up to God in the midst of hardship. God is your refuge and your help. Open your heart to Him, and let His light shine into your inner being so you can leave the darkness behind. Pour out your heart before Him. Entrust your burdens and the problems you are facing to God. Seek His help with focused prayer, and in doing so, come to understand His will, so that your heart may receive comfort; so that your trapped and wounded soul may be released from pain; so that the living water of life may flow into your dry and weary heart, bringing healing in the Lord and restoring your soul; so that you may receive strength, stand up again, and stand firm.

The days a Christian lives on earth will not always be filled with happiness, nor will they always be filled with pain and sorrow, because the things we go through are temporary. Yet in this short life, God is still at work. Life has value because it is under God’s care, walking on the path He has prepared, and being built up according to His will. Trials that come from God will always have value. Within them are lessons you need to bear, and a path of sanctification you need to walk. Whether the burden is light or heavy; whether it is a trial you personally go through, or whether you are walking alongside others in their suffering and shedding tears as you pray for them; you should carefully reflect on the Lord’s will. All of this is meant to help your spiritual life grow and mature, to renew your life, and to prepare you to receive that everlasting joy.

If a Christian is to inherit everlasting joy and have a share with the Lord, life must be changed. Those old traits, thoughts, intentions, and actions that do not match God’s righteousness must be cast away, so that life no longer remains in its old pattern. Just like a building, if it is not built on the rock, it will surely collapse when the storm comes. God gives people a new heart and a new spirit so that life may be renewed. Therefore, put off the old self and put on the new self. Do not keep living in the old self. Let your life truly live, and live out a life that glorifies God. It is also like the parable the Lord once spoke: no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the wineskins will burst, and the wine will spill out. Only when new wine is put into new wineskins can both be preserved.

Since you have already received the grace of God’s redemption, you should also build up your spiritual life in the Lord. Do not let the grace you have received be in vain, but hold firmly to it until that day comes. Everything God is doing in your life is meant to refine you, mature your spiritual life, and make you holy. It is meant to bring you from spiritual warfare into eternal rest, and to join your once-weak life to the Lord, making it a life that is honorable and full of glory. So in this life, endure patiently, work out the work of salvation, and become one who overcomes. Then when the Lord returns, you will be able to inherit the kingdom of heaven.

Scripture

Psalms

Chapter 46 Verses 1-7

God is our refuge and strength,

a very present help in trouble.

Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed,

and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,

though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God,

the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved:

God shall help her, and that right early.

The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved:

he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

The LORD of hosts is with us;

the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Ecclesiastes

Chapter 7 Verses 13-14

Consider the work of God:

for who can make that straight, which he hath made crooked?

In the day of prosperity be joyful,

but in the day of adversity consider:

God also hath set the one over against the other,

to the end that man should find nothing after him.

1 Peter

Chapter 4 Verses 12-13

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial

which is to try you,

as though some strange thing happened unto you:

But rejoice,

inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings;

that, when his glory shall be revealed,

ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

Isaiah

Chapter 64 Verse 8

But now, O LORD, thou art our father;

we are the clay, and thou our potter;

and we all are the work of thy hand.
