(2026.01.15 · The Encouragement of the Holy Spirit)
When trials come, do not lose heart, and do not become disappointed in God. Instead, regard them as something to rejoice in. For without trials, without stopping to examine our own spiritual condition, a person can drift away from the right path without even realizing it, growing farther and farther from God. And the farther one is from God, the farther one is from receiving that greatest blessing.
Human life does not depend on the world to survive. It is only in the Lord that we truly live, move, and exist. Life is given by the Lord; He enables us to do this and to do that. Every good and perfect gift comes from God in heaven, not from the world on earth. What the world offers ultimately turns out to be empty and meaningless, but what God gives is good and can last into eternity.
The Lord is the way, the truth, and the life. He is the source of life and true light. His love never changes, and the rewards and grace He gives are complete and lacking nothing. Therefore, people ought to seek God and live by relying on the Lord who gives life.
The training and discipline that the Lord allows us to experience are meant to guide us onto the right path, so that we may walk according to the plan He has already prepared for us. He reminds us not to focus on earthly things, because the things of this world will pass away, but instead to care about what is eternal and yet to come. Everything that comes from God is for our good. The Lord does not place burdens on us that are beyond what we can bear; He gives according to each person’s capacity. The question is whether we are willing to submit to Him, to let Him rule our lives, and to turn away from self-centered living so that order may be restored in the Lord, according to the plan God set in place beforehand.
May you lay yourself down and, by faith, receive the word that God has planted in your life. Humbly accept the Lord’s instruction, so that your spiritual life may grow, mature, and become complete in Christ. According to the lessons God has arranged for you, courageously accept the testing. As you continually put off the old self and correct the path you are walking on, endurance will be produced through the effort required in trials. Endure until you can see the results that trials bring. Be assured that your faith has been tested and proven, that it can stand firm before the Lord, and that you can hold fast to your faith in Him. Through endurance, life is brought to completeness, lacking nothing. And through patient waiting and persistent perseverance, the fruit of life is produced and is pleasing to God. In this way, we become holy, the firstfruits offered to God, and in the future, we will enter into eternal life.
When a person encounters trials, the first response should not be to look for problems in other people or in circumstances, but to examine oneself—to consider what kind of path one was walking on before the trial came, and whether that path was in line with God’s will.
Our journey in this world is a continual striving toward the kingdom of heaven, in order to receive the heavenly inheritance that the Father prepared for us before the foundation of the world, because a great reward is set before us and awaits us.
Therefore, brothers and sisters, when you fall into trials of many kinds, count it as great joy, because everything that happens is under God’s sovereign control, so that we may bear the fruit of righteousness and, in the future, receive a glory that is weighty, incomparable, and eternal.
Scripture
James
Chapter 1 Verses 2–4
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”
Acts
Chapter 17 Verses 26–28
“And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth,
and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him,
though he be not far from every one of us:
For in him we live, and move, and have our being;
as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.”
Psalms
Chapter 119 Verses 64–68
“The earth, O LORD, is full of thy mercy: teach me thy statutes.
Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O LORD, according unto thy word.
Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.
Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.
Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes.”
Psalms
Chapter 66 Verses 10–15
“For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water:
but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,
Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble.
I will offer unto thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the incense of rams;
I will offer bullocks with goats. Selah.”
