Before people know God, they live self-centered and empty lives. Their hope is only in this present life, and they do not realize that what they do is rebellious in God’s eyes. They do not live according to God’s righteous standards, so their lives have no part in the eternal kingdom of heaven. What they do is not according to God’s will, and they do not walk on the path of truth, causing sin to keep accumulating in their lives. Although they may appear to be alive on the outside, inwardly their lives are dead in trespasses and sins because of sin.

Now that we have received the grace of redemption through the Lord Jesus Christ, if we do not make up our minds to become new creations, earnestly pursue the truth, gain spiritual wisdom, learn how to truly renew our spiritual lives, put off the sinful nature of the old self, and live holy lives, then even though the Lord washed away our sins and made us holy when we were baptized, we can easily forget. Before long, we may forget the sins we once had and that we were cleansed through the precious blood of the Lord Jesus. Yet because we are still used to walking in the ways of the world, we become defiled again, continue living in uncleanness, and are unable to be united with the holy God.

In the past, although God’s chosen people, the Israelites, left Egypt and walked through the wilderness, they ultimately did not enter the land of Canaan flowing with milk and honey that God had promised. The same is true for God’s chosen people today. Some Christians have believed in the Lord and received baptism for the forgiveness of sins, yet they still live in disobedience and live no differently from people of the world. They still love the world and make the pursuit of money, fame, and status the goals of their lives. They allow the devil to stir up their emotions, leading them into anger, jealousy, hatred, and conflict with others.

God originally intended to give people rest, but because they do not obey His commandments, the road they walk becomes filled with hardship and trials, and they do not receive true peace and joy through the Lord. Do not wait until your life is nearly over before suddenly realizing that everything you spent your whole life pursuing has ultimately become empty. Do not make yourself a pitiful and sorrowful person because you failed to treasure the time God gave you, failed to take hold of opportunities to draw near to the Lord and enjoy His grace, and therefore missed the most beautiful blessings God wanted to give you.

True change in a person’s life comes from valuing eternal life and truly being united with the Lord. If you want to enter the holy place and be united with the Lord, you must put off your old self, remove the uncleanness from your life, and wholeheartedly serve the one true God in heaven. Do not follow the devil, and do not worship idols made by human hands. Do not waste the time God has given you, and do not spend your whole life pursuing the things of this world. Instead, earnestly pursue the better blessings that last forever, so that you may live out God’s purpose for creating you and gain the true meaning of life.

Scripture

Exodus
Chapter 3 Verses 2-5

“And the angel of the LORD appeared to Moses in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush.
Moses looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, yet it was not consumed.

Then Moses said, ‘I will turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.’

When the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush,
‘Moses! Moses!’

And he said, ‘Here I am.’

Then God said,
‘Do not come near.
Take the sandals off your feet,
for the place where you are standing is holy ground.’”

Hebrews
Chapter 12 Verses 11-16

“For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant,
but afterward it produces the peaceful fruit of righteousness in those who have been trained by it.

Therefore strengthen the hands that hang down and the weak knees,
and make straight paths for your feet,
so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.

Pursue peace with everyone, and pursue holiness,
without which no one will see the Lord.

See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God;
that no root of bitterness springs up and causes trouble,
and by it many become defiled;

and see that no one is sexually immoral or worldly like Esau,
who sold his birthright for a single meal.”

Ephesians
Chapter 4 Verses 21-24

“If indeed you have heard Him
and have been taught by Him,
as the truth is in Jesus,

you are to put off your old self,
which belongs to your former way of life
and is being corrupted through deceitful desires,

and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

and to put on the new self,
created according to the likeness of God
in true righteousness and holiness.”
