How a person can live a life of true understanding begins with knowing the God of heaven and knowing the Savior, Jesus Christ. What He desires to give people is a clear and open path. Even though life will include trials and hardship, the road He leads us on is not one that ends in despair or has no way forward. Instead, what looks to human eyes like the very end often becomes the starting point God has prepared for a new choice and a turning back. This is a crucial turning point, calling people to return to God. It is God giving a person the chance to begin again, so that they may live out a new life.
Choose, then, to courageously walk on God’s righteous path. Seek God and come to know Him, and you will understand that He is good and faithful. He is good by nature, and all that He does is good. Anyone who is willing to walk wholeheartedly in His ways will have their life renewed. Life can be transformed from a road full of thorns into days that are open and peaceful; from a life once dead in sin and wrongdoing into a life that receives eternal life in Christ.
In His mercy and lovingkindness, God uses the hardships people would rather avoid throughout their lives to guide them back to the right path, to bring them to repentance, and to lead them to follow the Lord again and obey His word. This path is the way that saves the soul. It is a path filled with hope, one that leads people out of what they think is a desperate situation with no way forward, and into hope.
Therefore, when a person is in difficulty, they should not look only at what is happening before their eyes. Instead, they should look into Scripture to see the promises God has given and the blessings He intends to bestow. They should also look backward from the outcome God desires and examine where they are standing in their weakness and hardship. When a person views their circumstances from the perspective of receiving the heavenly reward God wants to give, they can understand why things are happening, recognize the path they should walk, and discern what the Lord intends to accomplish in their life. In this way, at a critical crossroads, a person can choose the right direction, set their focus clearly, and keep moving forward.
Although each person’s experience is different, their environment is different, and what they possess and gain in this world is not the same, one thing remains the same: God is a just and fair God. He gives people the freedom to choose, allowing each person to make a decision about their eternal destination. If a person chooses to walk on the Lord’s path, the outcome of their life will be changed, become good, and continue into eternity.
God cares about whether a person’s soul is saved, and He also cares about whether they can enter the holy kingdom He has established, so that they may enjoy forever the blessings He gives. Therefore, a person should not value only this short life on earth, nor focus solely on the trials and hardships encountered during their physical years. They should not live according to the world’s values or waste their time. Rather, what matters is whether, in this life, a person chooses to walk with the Lord, chooses a life filled with hope, and walks on a clear and open path—so that, in the future, they may receive the eternal blessings of the kingdom of heaven.
Scripture
Jeremiah
Chapter 29 Verses 11–14
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD,
plans for welfare and not for evil,
to give you a future and a hope.
Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me,
and I will hear you.
You will seek me and find me,
when you seek me with all your heart.
I will be found by you, declares the LORD,
and I will restore your fortunes
and gather you from all the nations
and all the places where I have driven you, declares the LORD,
and I will bring you back to the place
from which I sent you into exile.”
Acts
Chapter 14 Verse 22
“strengthening the souls of the disciples,
encouraging them to continue in the faith,
and saying that through many tribulations
we must enter the kingdom of God.”
Lamentations
Chapter 3 Verses 22–33
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
‘The LORD is my portion,’ says my soul,
‘therefore I will hope in him.’
The LORD is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD.
It is good for a man that he bear
the yoke in his youth.
Let him sit alone in silence
when it is laid on him;
let him put his mouth in the dust—
there may yet be hope;
let him give his cheek to the one who strikes,
and let him be filled with insults.
For the Lord will not cast off forever,
but, though he cause grief, he will have compassion
according to the abundance of his steadfast love;
for he does not afflict from his heart
or grieve the children of men.”
Proverbs
Chapter 4 Verse 18
“But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn,
which shines brighter and brighter
until full day.”
